Ferritin

Ferritin is a protein found inside cells that store iron which can be used later. A ferritin test indirectly measures the amount of iron in blood. The amount of ferritin in the blood (serum ferritin level) is directly related to the amount of iron stored in the body. Iron is important for red blood cell production.

Specimen  requirement - 5 ml of peripheral blood collected in gel vacutainer tube and plasma/serum isolated.
