CA-19-9 - Cancer Antigen

CA19-9 is a tumor marker that is used primarily in the management of pancreatic cancer. CA19-9 is an antibody that binds to the tumor surface marker.CA19-9 can be elevated in many types of gastrointestinal cancer, such as colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, some non-cancerous conditions can cause high CA 19-9 levels.  However, important to note that not every patient with pancreatic cancer will have an elevated CA 19-9 level. For these reasons, the CA 19-9 test cannot be used as a diagnostic or screening test for pancreatic cancer.
