|CA 15-3 - Cancer Antigen|
Cancer Antigen 15-3 is a product of the breast cells; it is a protein which is shed by tumor cells in the breast. CA 15-3 is a blood test that is given during or after treatment for breast cancer. It is most useful in monitoring advanced breast cancer and for response to treatment. It is a tumor marker test that is helpful in tracking cancers that overproduce CA 15-3. Levels of CA 15-3 are higher if a person has breast cancer. However, important to note that not every patient with 1st stage of breast cancer will have an elevated CA 15-3 level.
