Free Beta-Subunit of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (Free –BHCG)

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone normally produced by placenta during pregnancy.  hCG molecules consist of two non-covalently linked polypeptide subunits, the alpha and beta chain subunits. In the first trimester of pregnancy, screening together with ultrasound markers (the nuchal translucency, NT), maternal serum β-hCG and PAPP-A can identify up to 97% of fetuses with trisomy 21 and other major chromosomal abnormalities.

Specimen requirement - 5 ml of peripheral blood collected in gel vacutainer tube and plasma/serum is isolated.

Reporting time - 1 day
