17OH Progesterone

This steroid is primarily produced by the adrenal glands and to some degree by the gonads, particularly the corpus luteum of the ovary. 17-OH-Progesterone (17-OH-P) is a C21-steroid mainly synthesized from progesterone in the adrenal cortex. In healthy men, it is additionally synthesized as a precursor of testosterone in the testes. In healthy women, 17-OH-P is produced in small quantities as a precursor of estradiol in the ovary. 17-OH-P is also an intermediate product in the synthesis of other adrenal-cortical steroids such as cortisol and aldosterone.
